Ohanaeze reacts to ‘lopsided’ Police recruitment exercise

Below is a statement from Ohanaeze Ndigbo signed by its publicity chief, Chuks Ibegbu;

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo hereby insists that the only long-term solution to Nigeria multifarious problems including corruption, insecurity and economic challenges in the Restructuring of the country and the implementation of most of the resolutions of the 2014 National Confab report.
A spokesman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chuks Ibegbu stated that President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Chief Nnia Nwodo and the entire leadership of the NEC of the organisation along with many Igbo leaders will storm Makurdi, Benue state in the Middle belt summit on Restructuring which holds at the end of June,

According to Ibegbu, Ohanaeze Ndigbo is peeved by the exclusion of Prof Humphry Nwosu who conducted the June 12, 1993 election adjudged the freest and fairest in the country in the recent honour list by the federal government.IIts a grievous omission that need to be corrected urgently, he stated.

He also called for the immediate creation of an additional state and local governments in the South to address the long years of structural marginalisation of the South East in the country, a situation which is adversely affecting them in the civil service, representation in government, allocations, and other indices of governance in the country. For instance, in the last recruitment in the police, Kano got more than three hundred slots and Abia barely a hundred whereas Abia produces twenty times the number of graduates and school leavers than Kano. This is unjust. Merit should prevail more than any other factor, if we must build the country of our dream, Ibegbu stated. He warned against a repetition of the same thing in the ongoing recruitment in the Prisons, Fire Service and Federal Road Safety corps.
This is a horrible challenge faced by graduates and youths from Igbo land, a situation aggravating the agitations there and which the federal government pretend not to know., Ibegbu went further to state calling on Ndigbo to insist on the correction of this age-long reality that is skewed against them.”
