Celeste Ntuli is taking an ‘indefinite break’ from Isibaya

After becoming a firm fan favourite on popular soapie Isibaya, comedian and actress Celeste Ntuli has decided to take what she calls an “indefinite break” from the show to focus on her comedy career.

Celeste confirmed the news to TshisaLIVE on Thursday and said that she was unsure when, or if, she would ever return.

“It has been an incredible journey but I have decided to take a break from the show. I don’t know when I will return or if I will ever return. I am still in discussions with the show’s producers to iron everything out, but it is a break that I felt I really needed to take,” she said.

Celeste said that she often found it difficult to juggle the demands of Isibaya with her comedy career.

“The characters are just so different. I would have to be someone on screen today and someone completely opposite on stage the next. It got a little exhausting,” she explained.

She also revealed that her family were not impressed with her decision to leave the popular soapie.

“My mom threatened to disown me if I left Isibaya,” Celeste joked. “The whole family sat me down and tried to convince me not to leave.”

The good news is that Celeste will film with the soapie until the end of June, ahead of her nationwide comedy show in July, and will be on screens until August.

“I will miss the show and the fans so much but this is an opportunity for me to grow and to maybe work on projects. Like my idea for a sitcom that I haven’t had the time to develop properly,” she added.
