Lara Rijs, 32, had a Swiss and South African passport.
She is believed to have been raped, but Mauritian police told News24 that the investigation was still ongoing.
Local newspaper Motinews reported that a 55-year-old security guard has been arrested for her murder. The guard was allegedly working at the complex Rijs stayed in.
Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) spokesperson Nelson Kgwete said South African authorities had not received information from Mauritius regarding the case.
