Letshego Zulu cycles from Jozi to KZN in Gugu’s honour

Just days before Gugu Zulu’s father died after a long battle with cancer, his wife Letshego completed a nine-day cycle challenge in his honour.

Letshego embarked on the 900km mountain bike challenge a week ago and did it in tribute of him.

The challenge which kicked off in Johannesburg and finished in Scottburgh, KZN has been described as the ‘alternative’ to the Epic.

Letshego explained that she and Gugu planned to do the race together, but instead she rode it with him in her heart.

“GZ (Gugz) and I had planned on ticking off our adventure to-do list together,” she said.

Letshego added that even though that was not meant to be, she had the support of Gugu’s mountain bike family with her all the way.

“It turned out to be a race that brought his (Gugu) mtb brothers and sisters together and we rode with him in our hearts. What an incredible week this was,” she added.

Letshego cycled with actress and Gugu’s mountain bike partner, Hlubi Mboya by her side.

Then tragedy struck the Zulu family again on Monday, less than a year after Gugu’s death in July last year.

Gugu’s father, Peter died after a lengthy battle with cancer.

“The passing of Gugu impacted [on] him badly‚ just when we thought he was getting better‚” said Tseliso Motloheloa‚ a family spokesperson told the Sowetan.

Gugu died while trying to climb Mount Kilimanjaro as part of a Trek4Mandela charity initiative.
